On 29th April the British Embassy, the BPCC and one of its member companies MG Network teamed up to cover the British Royal Wedding.

We attracted over 100 journalists from over 50 media to a special studio in the InterContinental Hotel in Warsaw to broadcast expert commentary on the wedding in Poland whilst following live coverage of the event in London. We are very grateful to our expert commentators.

We also staged a special luncheon for all our members who wanted to share this unique occasion with their friends and colleagues. Thank you very much to all those who attended the luncheon.

During the course of the day we together reached a television audience of over 6 million people and via the power of our combined network we attracted some of the best known titles in Poland to cover the wedding of the decade! This was the most widely covered British event in recent times.

The British Royal Wedding - in Warsaw

On 29th April 2011 4 billion people all over the world watched the television broadcast - the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The wedding took place in London. The official celebration of the wedding ceremony was also organized in Warsaw where special guests and journalists were invited by the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce and the British Embassy in Poland to join a very unique celebration. The event was produced by MG Network, a premier media agency in Poland.

Media Concept and Brief

Create an ‘Expert Royal Wedding Studio’ in Warsaw featuring live coverage of the event with a facility for up to the minute expert local commentary. Invite the Polish media to participate in the event live. Provide unique materials for nationwide transmission.

Scenario

More than 100 journalists from 52 media watched the live transmission of the wedding ceremony in an especially designed broadcasting studio in the InterContinental Hotel. They were joined by invited experts: Ambassador Jan Wojciech Piekarski (a well-known expert on diplomatic protocol MSZ), Natalia Jaroszewska (fashion designer) and Anna Baranowska (organizer of celebrities’ weddings).

The journalists were hosted by the organizers of the event: Martin Oxley (Managing Director of the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce) and Ric Todd (Ambassador of the Kingdom of Great Britain in Poland), who answered the journalists’ questions and shared personal comments, together with Prof. Norman Davies – a special guest of the ceremony in Warsaw.

In Poland an average of 730 000 viewers watched the live broadcast of the wedding of Prince William with Kate Middleton during the hours 11.30-12.30.

Spectacular effects of media meeting

1. More than 100 journalists from 52 media attended the media room at the InterContinental Hotel, which became a real “live studio” and the most preferred source of information on the British ceremony that day.
2. All major television stations participated in this unique occasion: 3 TV production vans, 11 cameras, 12 different programs of Polish TV stations, multiple entry "live" in the form of interviews with organizers and experts. The ceremony was transmitted together with live commentary in such program as the Panorama TVP 2 (average audience 2.3 million viewers), Wiadomości TVP 1 (the average audience 4.6 million viewers) and TVN 24 (the average viewership of 460 000 spectators in that time band)..
3. Relations with the media room lead the top 5 radio stations nationwide. Radio Zet and RMF FM, with a combined market share in Poland of 43%, informed about the Polish celebration on the air, and repeatedly on their portals..
4. 11 journalists were present from the most widely read daily newspapers and websites, 2 represented major news agencies and 13 - magazines life style & people..
5. During the same day of the ceremony, media coverage generated by Public Relations resulted in 78 specific emissions (press, radio, TV & internet), featuring the ceremony organizers and experts..
6. The organizers and experts were the most popular speakers and commentators of ceremony in the polish media. They gave a total of more than 80 interviews and speeches: Prof. Norman Davies (25), Ambassador Ric Todd (21), Ambassador Jan Piekarski (16), Natalia Jaroszewska (8), Anna Baranowska (10), Martin Oxley (5). .
7. In their materials, the media used thematic threads and commentaries, generated in the media room. The messages generated by the organizers and experts were well accepted
